CHATFIELD DRILLING · PUMPING SYSTEMS
Submersible, jet, booster, and sump pumps, the switches and controllers that run them, and the pressure tanks that carry the house between cycles. We size them to your well, install them, and repair them when the water stops.
Serving our communities since 1967
A pressure switch runs the whole system: the pump comes on at cut-in and rests at cut-out. When the needle stops behaving, one of four things is usually wrong.

THE PUMPING SYSTEM
The Pump Is Half of It.
The Rest Keeps It Alive.
A well pump only lasts as long as the switch, controls, and tank let it. Each part has its own page; repair covers all of them.
- REPAIR & REPLACEMENT
Well pump repair
No water, low pressure, a pump that runs and never stops, or one that clicks on and off: we diagnose the pump, the controls, the tank, and the plumbing, and fix the part that failed.

Pressure switches & controls
The switch that runs the cycle, and the digital controllers, like the SJE Rhombus WellZone, that add dry-run and overload protection.

Pressure tanks
Steady pressure between pump cycles, and fewer cycles, so the pump lasts. Waterlogged tanks repaired or replaced.

ONE CYCLE, ALL DAY
From Demand
to Cut-Out.
Your well system is a pump, a pressure switch, and a pressure tank. The switch is the brains: it watches the tank pressure and turns the pump on and off between two set points. That cycle repeats every time you use water, and most pump problems are that cycle going wrong.
- 01
Demand
A tap opens somewhere in the house and the pressure in the tank falls.
- 02
Cut-in
When pressure drops to the cut-in setting, the switch closes the circuit and powers the pump.
- 03
Refill
The pump lifts water from the well into the pressure tank, and the pressure climbs.
- 04
Cut-out
At the cut-out setting the switch opens, the pump stops, and the tank carries the house until the next demand. A digital controller like the SJE Rhombus WellZone adds what a switch cannot see: flow, run time, dry-run and overload protection.
WATER PUMP SERVICES
Water Pumps, Installed and Serviced, for Western Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio.
Managing the flow of water into a home, and the overflow out of a basement, is most of what a pumping system does. Chatfield’s range of pumps, including sump pumps, submersible well pumps, jet pumps, and booster pumps, covers residential and commercial needs across Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, from selection through installation, maintenance, and repair.
Choosing the right pump
The depth of the water source, the pressure the household needs, energy efficiency, and the specific requirements of the property all bear on the choice. We walk through each with you before anything is quoted. Jet pumps do their job well, but a submersible pump is often worth considering instead, for the energy savings and the quieter operation.
The brands on our trucks
- Submersible well pumps. Goulds, Franklin Electric, and Grundfos.
- Jet pumps. Goulds, single line and dual line.
- Booster pumps. The DAB Esybox line.
- Sump pumps. Liberty Pumps, with battery-powered, alarmed, and portable models.
“Chatfield Drilling replaced a submersible pump, extended our well casing above ground, and installed a sanitary cap at our farm house. This is our first experience with a well. Both Matt and Sam were happy to answer all of our questions, no matter how small, in a way that we could understand and enabled us to make informed decisions.”
Installed, then looked after
We don’t just sell pumps. Professional installation, routine maintenance, and repair keep a pumping system in peak condition year after year, and a record of what was installed when makes replacement something you plan rather than something that happens to you on a Sunday.
Why Chatfield
- Expertise. Decades of experience in water management, on the same wells we drill.
- Quality products. Only pumps from recognized brands.
- Custom solutions. Sized and specified for the property, not pulled from a chart.
- Comprehensive support. From selection and installation to maintenance and repairs.
HOW WE WORK
Find the Cause.
Then Fix the Part.
A weak shower can be the pump, the switch, the tank, or a pipe. The visit starts with what you noticed.
- 01
Describe what changed
Flow, pressure, cycling, noise, and when it started. What you observed is more useful than a guess at the part.
- 02
Diagnose the system
Pressure and delivery problems can start in the pump, the controls, the tank, or the plumbing. We find which before anything is replaced.
- 03
Size & install
A pump matched to the well and the household’s demand, from Goulds, Franklin Electric, Grundfos, DAB, and Liberty.
- 04
Service for its life
Routine maintenance, repairs, and a record of what was installed when, so replacement is planned instead of forced.
A LITTLE CLARITY
Good Questions.
Straight Answers.
You don’t have to know which part failed. Tell us what the water is doing.
Talk with the Chatfield team.
(724) 588-2652How do I tell if my well pump is failing?
Common signs worth reporting include low or inconsistent water flow, low pressure, a pump that runs constantly or will not start, and cycling that sounds different from normal. Describe what you observed and when it started rather than trying to identify the failed component. Pressure, flow, and delivery problems can originate in the pump, the controls, the pressure tank, or plumbing.
What is the life expectancy of a well pump?
Service life varies with the equipment, how it was installed and sized, water conditions, and how often it cycles. Rather than relying on an average, watch for changes in flow, pressure, and cycling behavior, and keep records of when equipment was installed and serviced. Those records make it easier to plan for replacement before a failure.
Why does my pump click on and off every few seconds?
That is rapid cycling, and it usually means the pressure tank has become waterlogged. The air cushion that lets the tank hold pressure is gone, so the switch clicks on and off almost continuously. It is hard on the pump. Call as soon as you notice it. A waterlogged tank is repaired or replaced as part of our pressure tank service.
Can I replace a well pump myself?
A well system includes energized equipment and pressurized components, and pumps must be correctly sized and installed for the well and household demand. Do not open electrical enclosures, handle wiring, or attempt to pull or restart a pump. Chatfield diagnoses and replaces failed pumps as part of its well services.
Can I adjust or replace the pressure switch myself?
We advise against it. The switch carries line voltage and controls pressurized equipment, and an incorrect adjustment can damage the system or cause injury. If a switch needs replacing, you can have the same type installed or upgrade to an electronic switch or a digital controller; either way, have it done by a qualified professional.
What pump services does Chatfield provide?
Pump repair and replacement, new equipment installation, pressure tank service including waterlogged tanks, and diagnosis of low pressure and failed pumps, alongside well cleanouts, liner installation, yield testing, and water sampling. Call (724) 588-2652 to schedule service.
