WATER TREATMENT · 30 MIN FROM OUR GREENVILLE OFFICE
Grove City’s borough water comes from four wells and is treated for iron and manganese before it reaches you. A private well nearby gets none of that, so iron treatment, if the test calls for it, happens at the house.
Serving our communities since 1967
USGS sampled Mercer County wells between 1928 and 2023. That shows what is common here, and your own water test sets the size of the system.

WATER TREATMENT IN GROVE CITY
What Grove City Water Says,
and What We Do About It.
Four borough wells and iron removal
The Grove City Borough Water Department pumps groundwater from Park Well #7 and Wells 8, 9 and 10 and lists one treatment plant, Pine Grove Circle. It serves 7,871 people through 2,595 connections. Much of its listed treatment targets iron and manganese. Chlorine and permanganate are added for their removal, and the list adds cascade aeration, settling, and greensand and rapid sand filters. Coagulation for inorganics and a pH adjustment ahead of filtration are listed too.
After filtration, chlorine goes in again for disinfection, and the system is listed for 4-log treatment of viruses, a high bar for inactivating them. A polyphosphate inhibitor and a final pH adjustment are there for corrosion control, to protect pipes. The disinfectant left in the water is chlorine, which a CityLux removes for the whole house.
Deep soil above Pottsville bedrock
Around Grove City, PaGWIS lists 919 well logs with a depth within 5 miles. The median well is 96 feet deep, with the middle half between 70 and 136. Drillers report bedrock at a median of 50 feet, and between 30 and 75 feet for the middle half, so a good share of a typical hole is soil and loose material. The rock mapped at the town center is the Pottsville Formation’s sandstone and conglomerate. Yields have a median of 25 gallons per minute, with the middle half from 18 to 40.
The borough plant puts its groundwater through a full set of iron and manganese steps. A township well has nothing between the pump and your fixtures unless you put it there. If you’re seeing orange stains, test first; the FerronX Iron System takes out iron and manganese together.
Borough lead rounds recorded at zero
EPA has three lead rounds on file for the borough system, ending in 2016, 2019 and 2022. Each 90th percentile is recorded as 0 mg/L, against an action level of 0.015 mg/L. The 90th percentile is the level that 90 percent of the sampled homes were at or under, which makes it a system-wide number.
Your own faucet depends on your own service line, fittings and solder. The inhibitor helps protect them, but it can’t speak for any one house. A lead check through a certified lab gives you your number. If lead shows up, the Atlas Filtri Oasis Sanic reverse osmosis unit at the kitchen sink is the standard answer, and it also takes out nitrate, arsenic, PFAS and dissolved solids.

A LITTLE CLARITY
Grove City Questions.
Straight Answers.
Does Grove City borough water still carry iron?
The plant is built to remove it: EPA lists permanganate, greensand filtration, aeration and settling for iron and manganese removal. The listing shows the steps, not the iron level at your tap. If you see staining on borough water, a test at the tap helps show whether it comes from the supply or from your own pipes and water heater.
How far down is bedrock near Grove City?
Half of the logged wells within 5 miles found rock between 30 and 75 feet down, with a median of 50. The rock mapped at the town center is Pottsville sandstone and conglomerate. None of those numbers says what the water in a given well carries, so a test at your tap comes before any treatment choice.
Is Grove City water treated with chloramine?
Not according to EPA’s list for the borough system. Its disinfection steps are chlorine, added before and after filtration, plus 4-log treatment of viruses. That keeps the filter choice simple: the CityLux removes chlorine for every tap in the house, and it handles chloramine too, so one unit covers the supply.
Do you test water in Grove City?
Yes. Chatfield’s water test and consultation cover Grove City from our Greenville office, about 30 minutes away by road. The test measures what is in your water and at what level, and any equipment it points to is quoted after the results.
